Unsulfured Powdered Molasses

Powdered (or dry) unsulfured molasses is a valuable organic amendment for dahlias, used to boost soil health and deter leaf-biting pests. It feeds beneficial soil microorganisms and can increase plant sugar levels (BRIX), making foliage less digestible to insects like aphids and spider mites.

How to Use Powdered Molasses on Dahlias:
  • Soil Amendment (Planting/Maintenance): Mix 1-2 tablespoons of powdered molasses per gallon of water and drench the soil around your dahlias every 2-4 weeks. It feeds soil microorganisms, improving nutrient uptake.
  • Foliar Spray (Pest Control): Mix 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of water and spray directly on foliage to increase sugar content (BRIX), making plants less attractive to sucking insects like aphids, spider mites, and leaf miners.
  • Application Timing: Apply once a week or every other week for best results, particularly during the active growing and flowering stages.
  • Incorporation: Sprinkle powdered molasses directly onto the soil surface or incorporate it into the soil when planting tubers to boost microbial activity immediately
